Business Tour 2020

This year the Business Tour took place from 5 to 7 March. During this tour we visited four companies with twenty-five students.

On Thursday morning we started with a case and tour at Logiqs in Maasdijk. Here, different groups focused on designing a lift for vertical farming installations. After a successful lunch we travelled to Vlaardingen to visit Houdijk Holland. We were warmly welcomed with coffee, tea and cookies. This company specializes in the development of machines for the packaging of cookies. After a nice presentation about the family business and how the company once started, we were taken to the factory. Here the employees explained the applications of the machines and we were shown how the machines work. At the end of the day we had a drink with the employees of the company in the canteen.

The second day started in Rotterdam, at TWD in the Science Tower. Upon arrival on the 13th floor of the building with a beautiful view over the harbour, we were split into a number of groups. In a short presentation they told us about the company, after which we started with a small assignment. This initially seemed very easy, but it turned out to be a bit more difficult than expected. Then a more challenging case was presented to us. We stayed for lunch and when our bellies were full, it was time for the trip in the direction of Almelo to visit VDL ETG. We were welcomed here with a presentation about the structure and history of the company. We then walked into the factory, where they were expanding considerably, as the need of clean rooms is growing. Then we arrived in a room filled with large milling machines which made many participants very enthusiastic. After dinner we continued our way to Eindhoven where looked back at all the nice things we saw and learned at the companies. The next morning we made a short stop on the way back to Delft to play some “footgolf”, a combination of golf and football. All in all, it was a successful Business Tour!
